Let’s Talk About Consent

Awareness-raising on the importance of consent is crucial in promoting healthy relationships free from violence and abuse.

For this year’s Valentine’s Day, the Commission on Gender-Based Violence and Domestic Violence within the Parliamentary Secretariat for Equality and Reforms, aims to continue spreading awareness on consent and its key principles through several adverts on social media, public billboards, TV and radio stations. Such initiative is a continuous effort of the ‘Together we Stand. Together we Heal.’ national awareness-raising campaign for the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence 2024.

To raise awareness with decision-makers and politicians, a card themed for Valentine’s Day was distributed with Members of Parliament in which they were invited to join this campaign by pledging their support in preventing gender-based violence and domestic violence.

To delve in greater detail about the significance of consent, the Commission is hosting a panel discussion at the University of Malta on Valentine’s Day where students may join the conversation on consent and its relevance in different situations, including in intimate and sexual relationships, and in social and digital contexts.
